"Presidential Wreath"
Major General James T. Jackson, USA Commanding General,
Military District of Washington, (MDW) passes through
Honor Guard to present a wreath on behalf of the
President of the United States, George W. Bush at the
Annual Lincoln Birthday Celebration, February 12, 2001.
The ceremony started at 12 Noon and included music by the
United States Marine Band, a reading of The Gettysburg Address
and additional tributes by over 20 different dignitaries and
patriotic organizations, including one presented by
Craig Harmon, Founder & Director of The Lincoln Highway
National Museum & Archives in Galion, Ohio.
The Ceremony is sponsored by The Lincoln Birthday
National Commemorative Committee.

Members of the United States Marine Band play Taps during the Lincoln Birthday Celebration February 12, 2001 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. "Zero Milestone"
Craig Harmon, Founder & Director of The Lincoln Highway Natinal Museum & Archives in Galion, Ohio presents a Lincoln Highway Wreath at the Zero Milestone on the South Lawn of The White House February 11, 2001. The Zero Milestone was the official starting point for the First Army Transcontinental Motor Convoy that went from The White House to San Francisco via The Lincoln Highway in 1919. (See enscription on left side of marker) The trip, under the command of Colonel Charles W. McClure took 62 days and was comprised of 75 Vehicles and 365 Men including a young Lt. Col Dwight D. Eisenhower. Plans call for a 90th Anniversary re-enactment of the Convoy in 2009 as a finale to The Lincoln Bicenntinial Celebration as "The Lincoln Highway Comes of Age" and "A Nation Pays Tribute" to Mr. Lincoln.
