1875--Mrs. Laura B. Prisk--1950
"Mother of National Flag Day"

Mrs. Laura B. Prisk was the Founder and President General
of the National Flag Day Association of the United States.

She worked for over 40 years on Flag Day and was the second
to initiate Congressional Legislation in 1929 requesting that June 14th
be designated a National Legal Holiday.

In 1916 she was the first person to ask the
President of the United States
to issue a  Flag Day Proclamation.

In 1928 she sponsored the first of her may
Annual Flag Day Celebrations
at the Statue of Liberty on Bedloe's Island
with a huge American Flag unfurled on the arm.

She was an "Electoral Voter" and for many years served as
President of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic
of New York and was Editor of The Patriotic Instructor.
